Return shipping costs are not included in our prices. Postage is calculated by package weight and zip code in order to make it fair to everybody. We use US Priority Mail for most orders, and economical Media Mail for large heavy orders such as boxes full of reel tapes. There is no "handling" fee, but we do charge a couple dollars for new packaging materials if the original packaging cannot be re-used to ship your order back to you. We use the highest-quality LP shipping boxes, not flimsy folding mailers.
Speaking of which, LP shipping packages for sending your albums are $7.50. After we receive your payment, we'll send out to you everything you need to pack and ship your albums. Payments can be made at www.deepskyaudio.com/payment.htm
Quantity discounts are available for multiple albums, cassettes, and 45's in the same order. No discounts are available for other media.
LP transfers - We offer three LP transfer options as outlined below. All albums receive our best LP remastering work, they differ only in packaging. So if all you want is to just hear the music again, package "A" would be fine for you. Double albums count as two albums. We do charge a little extra for albums in horrible condition, such as badly warped albums, broken records, skips and sticks, etc. However, if the album is so bad that the restoration cost becomes excessive, we will recommend obtaining a better copy.
| LP TRANSFER
SPECIAL - Buy two package A or package B transfers, get a third FREE! |
Package A, $20.00 - Our LP remastering "turns back the clock" on your album to make it sound even better than the day it came from the record store. You get the CD in a slimline jewel case, with album information printed on the disc. Click here to see what they look like. All our CD's are track-selectable, like commercial CD's, and there is no additional cost for "live" albums..
Package B, $26.00 - This option gives you high-resolution album cover scans on the jewel case. Attractive and compact, this is our most popular package. Click here to see an example.
Package C, $30.00 and up - Full retail-style CD package. Album cover artwork on a full-size jewel case, front and back, plus album cover artwork on the CD itself. Click here to see an example. Price depends on the complexity of the required artwork. "Big Production" albums, such as gatefold covers, etc. will incur a higher cost due to extensive graphics work.
ADDITIONAL CD COPIES - "A", $6.00 each. "B", $8.00 each. "C", $10.00 each, $12.00 w/fold-out.
We also offer downloadable mp3 files for your portable music player! Only $2.00 extra. Just indicate MP3 on your order form.
45 RPM singles or single tracks from albums -
$4.00 per track for singles or single-track compilation CD's, includes audio remastering. 45EP album sets are priced at $5.00 per side. $12.50 per CD and $20.00 minimum order. Quantity discount available.
Standard Commercial 78's
Decca, Columbia, Brunswick,
Victor, Pathe, etc. Price includes restoration, $20.00 minimum
order cost. Prices are for 78's in good condition. Slightly
higher for records in terrible condition, and much higher for
broken records.
10-inch 78 RPM discs, $6.00 per side
12-inch 78 RPM discs, $8.00 per side
Home Disc Recordings -
Audiodisc, Duo Disc, Silvertone, Recordio, Voice-O-Graph, etc.
Home-made disc recordings vary in size from little cardboard records to album-length discs, and in quality from acceptable to dreadful. Because of this wide variation, we can't pre-price acetate discs. The cost depends entirely on the recording, and can range from $7.00 per side up to $25.00 per side for a large disc in poor condition. If you like, we can provide you with an estimate before beginning work.
Cassette Tapes -
Up to 60 minute tapes - $20.00 with restoration.
90 minute tape - $30.00 with restoration.
Over 90 minutes - $35.00 with restoration.
Broken cassette tapes repaired for $5.00 each.
Reel Tapes - Since reel tapes come in such a wide variety of lengths and formats, we can't set a fixed price for reel tapes. We are often asked "How much are reel tapes?" The answer is, we don't know! We don't know the tape speed, number of tracks, arrangement of tracks, contents of the tape, how many times it will break, and so on. Every reel is a "pig in a poke" so to speak. There is just no way of knowing what a reel will cost until it's here and playing on the machine, because only then will we know what will be needed for restoration. Reels are priced according to the length and condition of the recording, and the cost is $20.00 per hour of finished audio. The minimum cost for any one single reel is $12.50, and for any one single order, $20.00. Please be assured that we will provide the best possible sound for the lowest possible price on all reel tape projects.
Train Wreck - Some tape recordings are absolute nightmares to restore and such tapes are priced on a per-case basis. Constant separating of old splices, tape keeps breaking, tape flipped upside down, 3 different speeds on the same tape, incessant start/stop noises, absolutely horrid recording quality, etc. We sincerely hope you don't have a tape like this, but if you do, don't despair. We can recover it, it'll just cost a bit more.
Pancakes -
![]() |
Pancakes are reels of tape without reels. The cost to recover pancakes will be an additional $5.00 per tape. |
Tape Baking - We will bake tapes when needed. Tape baking is $10.00 for the first reel, and $5.00 for each additional reel sent in the same order. We will not attempt playback of a known "baker" tape without baking it first.
Wire Recordings
$40.00 first spool, $30.00
each additional spool.
Includes transfer, speed correction if needed, removal of loud
transients, steady-state noise removal, hum removal, volume
leveling, editing, and equalization. We do everything possible to
make the wires sound as good as they possibly can.
Shorter spools will cost a little less than the above prices. Because of the unpredictable nature of wire recordings, we'd rather not risk a wire by playing it multiple times or starting and stopping it. We don't "audition" spools just to see what's on them. Once a spool starts playing, we play it all the way, unless the remainder is obviously unrecorded.
Note: Prices slightly higher if we encounter problems during playback such as snarls, breaks, etc.
Dictaphone Machine Belts - $20.00 for the first belt, $15.00 per belt thereafter, transferred and restored.
Soundscriber discs,
per side - Soundscriber discs come in
four sizes. The prices per side, according to size are $5.00,
$6.00, $7.00, and $8.00.
